4th Grade Art

Cubist Faces:

Forth grade students looked at the work of Pablo Picasso. We made these clay faces with cubism in mind. We pressed in various textures and talked about additive and subtractive techniques for clay detail. We also used things like wire, nails, and beads to embellish. Clay was colored with construction paper crayons and rubbed with india ink. We also made clay bases to hold these heads up! Such a fun project.

Ted Harrison Landscapes:

Forth grade students studied the artist Ted Harrison. We used liquid mask to create these unique landscapes. Later we added model magic rock sculptures to give the paintings a little dimension.

Radial Design:

Forth grade students talked about symmetry. We focused on Radial Symmetry. We talked about things in nature like flowers that have radial symmetry. This was a lesson adapted from Dick Blick. We added in scraps of metal tooling foil to give the projects a little shine.

Hot Air Balloon Origami:

Forth grade students really stressed their brains on this Hot Air balloon origami. They turned out cute but it was a steady headache!

Stained Glass Cathedrals:

Forth grade students looked at stained glass from around the world. We used our knowledge of radial design to make these windows using recycled CD's. We used Sharpie and chalk to finish our cathedrals.
