2nd Grade Art

Matisse Fish Bowls:

Second grade students created these fish bowls inspired by the artist Henri Matisse. We read the book Drawing With Scissors for this projects start. We talked about the word collage. For this project we created a pattern background of choice, found interesting pattern paper, drew an organic shaped fish bowl and made some funky fish to go inside.

Matisse Fish Bowls:

Second grade students read the book Giraffes Can't Dance. We talked about what a model is? Being a model can be a hard job. We practiced being models by posing and standing still. When someone moved they had to sit down...the last one standing was Mr. Anderson Next Top Model! We posed a partner and used ovals to draw these fun giraffes. We used Talons transparent watercolors to color him or her in. Then we looked for different values to outline with permenent marker.

Bird Mobiles:

Second grade students created Bird sculptures after looking at the work of Alexander Calder. These students used paste papers to create their bodies and heads and then bent wire to make the necks. It took some practice before we got our birds to balance. These are stable-mobiles.

Cuckoo Clocks:

Second grade students created these awesome cuckoo clocks using paste papers and printing techniques. We printed paper using toilet paper tubes and found objects, then we used wood grain to print with. No cuckoo clock would be complete without a crazy bird peeking out the door.

Harper Cardinals and Snowman:

Second grade students looked at the artwork of Charlie Harper. We used many painting and printing techniques to create this adorable snowman. The background is bubble wrap printed. We talked about shading to make our snowman appear round. The hat was dry brushed to look old. The details of past paper make this painting one of my favorites.
